Beautiful book on the most original still-life painter of seventeenth-century Italy. Baschenis was a disciple of Caravaggio who discovered the theme of musical instruments embedded in Caravaggio's paintings, and understood their unique poetry. Several essays by art scholars put Baschenis's work in critical and historical context.
