Set of 4 Cherner Chairs for Plycraft circa 1958
Rare set of four Norman Cherner side chairs in excellent vintage condition. We believe these are made of Baltic birch with walnut veneer. The patina on these chairs is unbelievable—they seem to glow, and the richness of their tone combined with their patina only highlights the simple genius of their design. Tapered laminated legs and molded plywood seat and back are ergonomically shaped to support the back. Our set of chairs have clearly been cared for, and show minor dings and marks, with no signs of repair that we can see. Two of the chairs have the Plycraft label. All four chairs have all of their glides. If you're curious about the "Bernardo" label: Plycraft stole Norman Cherner's original design and attributed it to a fictitious designer, Bernardo. In 1961, Cherner sued Plycraft and won. There are now official reproductions of the famous chair, but collectors value these incredibly hard-to-find originals. Dimensions: 18.5" wide by 21" deep by 31.5" high. The seat is 18" high. We ship internationally. Please inquire. You might also be interested in...
